Advice from the Pro
Here's what Amanda shared with me.
"We are slowly gearing up for Prom 2018 season and couldn’t be more excited with the trends this year! In years past, hair has always been the focal point and many girls make their appointments months in advance to make sure it is perfect! We are seeing a large increase in salon with makeup now as well. With so many difficult beauty makeup tricks, many of you are opting to have the pros do it. Here are a few words of advice when choosing your stylist/makeup artist:
1. Do your research! Look for pictures of the stylist’s work and how comfortable they are with performing the service.
2. Cheaper isn’t always better. My momma always told me, you get what you pay for. Certain salons and/or artists charge more for a reason.
3. Come with pictures of what you are wanting but be flexible. Many times we have guests that bring in these gorgeous Pinterest pictures only to be disappointed when it doesn’t turn out exactly as it’s printed. Your stylist should explain beforehand what will and will not work for your hair and makeup and give you alternatives suited for you!
4. Don’t wait! Book your appointment now, that way you don’t run the risk of not being able to find someone!
So onto trends! For hair, we are still seeing a lot of the loose, flowy updo styles. Braids are still popular but we are seeing them much smaller and multiple braid techniques in one style. Incorporating twists is something we are seeing as well as formal ponytails. We see a lot of styles being mostly down this year, but still with some fun, formal elements."
"For makeup," Amanda shares, "we are seeing a lot of glam natural looks. Soft glitter/simmer is really big this year but in neutral tones. Bold lips are really big and we are seeing them more with an “ombre” effect where two different shades are used to create a fullness and draw attention to the lip!"
Something You Salon & Spa specializes in special occasion hair and makeup. They are already booking our for most prom weekends, so give them a call if you would like to set something up!
